With his research team Mark focuses on projects in education, healthcare, offices, penitentiaries, train stations, and cities. The team is particularly interested in the health and well-being of users in the built environment. As a professor in Facility Management at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, The Netherlands his projects are always on the crossroads of research, practice, and education. Mark is also professor in Spatial Environment and the User at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and leading professor of the Hanze Research Centre for Built Environment, The Netherlands.

David Ernest has obtained a Master’s degree in building energy efficiency from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.
In California, his has conducted several studies in the field of environmental design (including natural ventilation and occupant comfort simulations).
From 1991 to 1996, he has lead R&D programs in Group Icade, a leader in real estate services in France.
Starting in 1996, he has launched the certification program (ISO 9001, ISO 14001) for most of the activities of Group Icade (project management, real estate development, property management and facility management).
Since 2001, he has conducted consulting and project management activities and a series of audits in the field of facility management, environmental performance of buildings, occupants’ satisfaction, health & safety and space planning.
He is now leading the Innovation & Energy Department of VINCI Facilities with projects ranging from energy performance contracting
